July Birthstone: The Ruby

July's birthstone, the ruby, is a very sought after gemstone. So much so that there are some rubies that have sold for upwards of $225,000 per carat. The ruby also has a very rich history, the stone is even mentioned in the bible where it symbolized wisdom and beauty. In India people believed that rubies would help them be at peace with their enemies. The ruby was so sought after back in the day that its value once surpassed the diamond, which isn't hard to believe considering its amazing deep red color.
